Obituary

Obituary

Wendell Slater was born on August 16, 1940, in Magnolia, Arkansas. He was the fourth of eight children born to James and Ircena Slater. He was a mischievous child, and struggled to fight the temptations of the streets. He attended Carver Elementary School, Edison Jr. High and graduated from Fremont High School in Los Angeles.

Wendell married his high school sweetheart Wanda McCoy. Four children were born to that union, one girl and three boys. He worked very hard to provide for his family. While working for Chevron Corp, he missed only one day of work in the 21 years. In 2011, he married his long time friend, Bonnie Porter. She and his daughter Briggitte were his constant and devoted caregivers until the time of his death.

As a young man Wendell embraced the teaching of the IDMR (Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research), a non-domination bible school. IDMR gave him a new perspective on his daily life and the hereafter. He brought many of his friends and family members to bible study to keep them out of trouble. Some of those friends are still members today. He embraced the fact that Yahweh manifested himself in the last days as Dr. Henry Clifford Kinley, Founder and Dean of IDMR.

Wendell's desire was to make the transition from a physical being to a spiritual being, where he would have no more aches and pains eternally.

Wendell is survived by his wife, Bonnie, his brother, Douglas (Lucille), his four children, Antoine, Briggitte, Pierre, and Dominique, a foster child, Cassandra Lopez, and a host of grandchildren, relatives and friends.
