Life Reflections of Ruby Nell Elliott
Ruby Nell Elliott was born July 1, 1939, in Eldorado, Arkansas. Her parents were Mamie and Archie Elliott. She was the second child of seven children. Her siblings included Johnnie, James, Mary Anne, Archie Jr., Jimmy and Mamie Marie Elliott.
Ruby began her education in the Eldorado public school system. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1956. Ruby accepted Christ as a young child and united with Plum Street Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C.) in Eldorado, Arkansas. She enjoyed traveling with the youth to various church activities, seminars, and convocations. She served as choir director, was a budding soloist, church usher, and played the drums.
In 1962 she relocated to Los Angeles, California where she promptly united with Crusaders Temple C.O.G.I.C. pastored by Bishop Morris. Years later she moved her church membership to Robbins Memorial C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Pastor V. A. Scott. In December of 1989 she moved to Moreno Valley, California and joined Life C.O.G.I.C. pastored by Bishop Ron M. Gibson.
Education and a stable career path were important to her. She continued her education at Los Angeles Trade Technical College and began a career with the United States Postal Service, L.A. District in 1965. She worked as a Distribution Clerk in mail processing and retired after 35 years of exemplary service as a Postal Data Systems Technician. During her years of retirement she enjoyed traveling throughout the country and attended the annual International Holy Convocation of the C.O.G.I.C.
Ruby’s hobbies included solving crosswords puzzles, reading her Bible, listening to CDs of sermons and gospel music. She took piano lessons for five years and enjoyed playing just for herself. She was a founding member of the Psychedelic Set Social Club until the club dissolved.
Proverbs 17:6 says, “Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged.” (NLT). Ruby’s only grandchild, Ashley was the light of her life. She enjoyed shopping and playing board games with her and was very active in her school activities and relished the time she spent going on field trips with her. Ruby beamed with pride regarding Ashley’s academic achievements and was excited over her 2013 fall acceptance to the University of California, Riverside campus.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Mamie and Archie Elliott and her two brothers, Johnnie and James. The word of God reminds us in Philippians 3:20 that our citizenship is in heaven and in Psalm 31:24 that we should be of good courage for he shall strengthen our heart.
Our heavenly Father dispatched his Angel from heaven to bring Ruby home to be at rest with him on July 29, 2013. Ruby’s earthly presence will be missed and the precious memories she shared will forever be embedded and cherished in the hearts of her loving and devoted daughter Barbara Stroud and adoring granddaughter Ashley Stroud of Moreno Valley, California; Godson, James Preston McNear of Omaha, Nebraska; two brothers, Archie Elliott Jr. (Jennett) of Arlington, Tennessee, Jimmy Elliott of Los Angeles, California; two sisters, Mary Ann Alexander of Round Rock, Texas, Mamie Marie Elliott of Moreno Valley, California; a beloved Cockatiel named Shakespeare; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; her sister/friends, Audrey Ellis of Carson, California, Ernestine Hall of Oltewah, Tennessee, Hattie Tyous of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Betty Bland of Compton, California; and a host of friends.
To God Be The Glory.
