Obituary

Milton K. Blackmon was born to the union of Juanita Haile and Clifford Blackmon in Kershaw, South Carolina. He joined the United States Navy, where he served on the USS Asthabula until 1952. It was because of the Navy that he landed in California and met his beautiful wife, Nadeen Blackmon, of 62 years. Milton earned four Medals of Honor " Korean Service Medal, Occupational Service (Asia Clasp), United Nations Ribbon, and the Victory Medal - serving in WWII and the Korean War. He worked for the United States Navy as a civil service employee for 36 years until his retirement.

Milton received the Lord in 1969, and in 1976, he became the Pastor of New Christian Light Baptist Church, Watts, California. He and Nadeen served in ministry together for over 27 years. He had a heart for winning souls for Christ, visiting the sick, and feeding and clothing the homeless. He was known throughout the community for his awesome barbeque. He had a contagious smile and laughter, for which many will remember him by. He was a father to his nieces, nephews, and many in the neighborhood. He always had an encouraging word of love and compassion for everyone. He was a true servant of the Lord.

In spite of his health challenges and circumstances, Milton praised God and demonstrated impeccable faith until his passing because of his will to live. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Nadeen Blackmon; a daughter, Brenda Williams; two sons, Robert C. Blackmon (Alkenia) and Cedric Blackmon; four granddaughters - Simone Williams (Eric Epps), Alexander Blackmon, Chatavia Winston, and Mya Hicks; seven great grandchildren " Dj Epps, Dominque Epps, Ashley Price, Ashton Price, Erick Epps, Jr., Ericka Epps, and Derrick Epps; two brothers, James Blackmon (Carol) and Clifford Blackmon; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. His son, Milton K. Blackmon Jr. preceded his dad in passing. He will truly be missed by many.
