Life Reflections

In Merigold, Mississippi, Major Coleman and Earnestine (Hayes) Coleman welcomed son, Enos Hayes, into the world on August 24, 1951. Educated in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, he graduated from John F. Kennedy High School.

As a child, Enos was reared in the Baptist faith and accepted Christ during his youth. In Mississippi, he attended Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ivory J. James. His last membership was with Blessed Trinity, Pastor Edward Smith.

In 1973, Enos enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country proudly and received an Honorable Discharge in 1993 as a TSgt.

Enos met the love of his life in the 7th grade and later through the years, Jeanette C. Harris became his wife, marrying on September 1, 1974. To this blessed union four children were born: Vanessa, Enos Keith, Cantrell and Burtice. He supported his children in all of their endeavors as well as offering guidance to their friends and anyone in need.

Enos was an intelligent outspoken man, who was truly passionate about life. He loved family, which explained his love for family gatherings. These gathering were not only a time for fun, but also a time for good food, games and laughter. He loved to cook and cooking for his family was one of the ways he expressed his love.

"Don't sweat the small stuff", "Deal with it", and "Spare me" were a few of his favorite sayings. He never told you what you wanted to hear, but he always told you what he thought you needed to know. In his own special way, he empowered and enlightened everyone he came in contact with.

On July 2, 2013, Enos Hayes made his transition. He was preceded in death by his parents, Major Coleman Sr. and Earnestine Coleman; siblings, Shirley Carmicle, Kenneth Carter, Walter Lee Reed, Theodore Coleman, Velma Warren, Wilma Jones, Christine Robinson and Major Coleman Jr.

He leaves to cherish precious memories, his beloved wife of 38 years, Jeanette Hayes; children: Vanessa (Eddie) Morris, Enos Keith (Susie) Hayes, Cantrell (Judith) Hayes, Burtice (Shae) Hayes; grandchildren: Bihjan “BJ”, Evan, Quintin, Keiana, Jaitice, Jordan, Zyetice, Janelle, Justice; siblings: Steward (Esma) Carter, Lena Wilson, Barbara Collins, Dorothy Jo Jackson, Marvin (Katie) Carter, Melvin (Addie) Carter, Beneva (Willie) Felder, Ray (Deborah) Coleman, Majoretta (Sylvester Jr.) Norvell, Vernon (Audrey) Coleman, Vernondale Coleman, Carl Coleman, Kevin Coleman, Ronald Coleman, Michael Coleman, Elbert Coleman, Jamie Coleman, Steven Coleman; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
