Minister Gloria Jean (Brown) Jones
June 28, 1936 – September 07, 2013
God’s creative hand sent forth the life of Minister Gloria Jean (Brown) Jones on June 28, 1936, by the yielding vessels of the late Rev. John Benjamin Brown and Pearlee Williams Brown in Many, Louisiana.
Gloria was raised in a loving, Christian home and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was the baby of 16 children. Her early education began in Negreet, Louisiana and she continued her education at Sabine Parish High School, where she was an “A” student, graduated as the valedictorian of her class and played shooting guard on the girls’ varsity basketball team. She received a full scholarship to Southern University; however she chose not to attend, instead she married the love of her life Andrew Perry Jones Jr., on December 31, 1955.
Gloria and her loving husband relocated to California in March of 1956 and he kept his promise to take care of her. To this union two children were born: Rickey Wendell Jones and Rita Adriane Jones. As a mother, she instilled the teachings of Jesus and the importance of love and respect for self and others. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all of her heart. Every time one was born it was like the fourth of July. She was very proud of the many accomplishments each child was blessed to make.
Gloria enjoyed singing in every choir at the churches where her husband was an accomplished musician, arranger and choirmaster. To name a few, Unity, Bethel, Mt. Pleasant Hill, Bright Star and New Temple Missionary Baptist Church.
One of her greatest joys was working with the Youth Department as the Directress at Bright Star and Cedar Grove Baptist Church. For many years, she participated on various church services around the city, where she delivered spirit filled themes.
Gloria was a faithful prayer warrior and was at her altar every morning between the hours of 4 and 6 am. There were numerous times she was asked to put a family member or friend on her special prayer altar and she never turned them down. She was always willing to lend an ear and say a prayer whenever she received a call.
Gloria was truly an instrument of the Lord. She accepted her calling as “minister” with great excitement ready and willing to do the Lord’s work. She was active in the ministerial staff at Macedonia Baptist Church under the tutelage of Pastor Robert L. Mason
and currently Pastor Shane B Scott. She enrolled in Bethany Christian Bible College, where she completed two semesters.
On Saturday, September 7, 2013 at two in the afternoon, God called and Minister Gloria Jean Jones answered with her loving husband and children by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. With the grace of God, she attended all of their services.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory, a loving husband of 57 years, Andrew Perry Jones, Jr.; one son, Rickey W. Jones, Sr. (Regina) of Cypress, CA; one daughter, Rita A. Jones-Ray (Gregory) of Los Angeles, CA; one sister-in-law, Addie Jones of Houston, TX; one stepbrother-in-law, Larry Nunley; one stepsister-in-law, Virginia Willams; one aunt, Clemmie Jones; seven grandchildren: Genda Mosely, Darletha Ray, Rickey W.
