LaVern Harris was born on August 31, 1922, to Chassie and IV Morris, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was an only child. Her years of education were also in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

She met and married Princest LaDay in 1938. From this union two beautiful children were born, Donald and Juliette.

She moved to California in 1942, during the war and worked for the shipyard in Oakland, California. After the war in 1947, she would return to Oklahoma to bury her father. After she buried her father, she returned to California. She met and married Lacie Harris and from this union a son was born Darrell.

LaVern loved to cook. Her love for cooking would lead to catering for weddings parties and extravagant events until she retired.

She was an active of The Oklahoma Club. She joined St. Matthew Baptist Church and gave her life to the Lord.

LaVern will always be remembered for her cooking and love for people, family and friends. You could always enjoy her good cooking and deserts. There was always a warm welcome in her home.

LaVern was preceded in death by her mother Chassie Morris; her father IV Morris; daughter Juliette LaDay; son Darrell Harris; and husband Lacie Harris. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her son Donald LaDay; grandson Donald LaDay Jr.; great grandson, Michael Bell; and a host of cousins and close friends.
