Obituary

L.A. Carter was born on October 20, 1937, in Carthage, Texas to Margaret and Johnny Carter, both preceded him in death as well as his three brothers, Johnny, Andrew and Richard Carter. He departed this life on July 26, 2013.

He moved to Los Angeles, California in 1962. Joining the United States Marine Corp in 1958, he held an E-4 rank until 1962 and received an Honorable Discharge.

L.A. married Annie Lee Watkins on April 4, 1962. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. This was a loving and nurturing marriage, until Annie’s passing on April 19, 2002.

L.A. graduated from Los Angeles Trade Technical College with two A.A. degrees in 1974 and 1976. He was a member of the California Masonry. L.A. was dedicated and hard-working employee for the County of Los Angeles for 29 years before his retirement in 1993.

In his spare time he enjoyed watching sports with his favorites being boxing, football, basketball and track, but nothing meant more to L.A. than his family. Family was everything to him and they affectionately called him “PaPa”.

L.A. “PaPa” Carter leaves to mourn one son Lionel Victor Carter; two daughters, Becky Lorraine Carter and Tricia Rene Carter; four beautiful grandchildren: Ryan Victoria Carter, Trevor Louis Carter, Ernesha Lee Ann Baptist and B’Jon Courtney Jones, all of Los Angeles, CA; four great-grandchildren: Amia Rushing, Treyvon Carter, Matthew Rushing, and London Carter of Los Angeles, CA; one sister Ollie Jones of Long Beach, CA; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
