Betty Scott

October 23, 1929 – July 12, 2013

Obituary

Betty Jean Scott was born in Omaha, Nebraska and spent her childhood in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She moved to Amarillo, Texas, in 1950 where she met the love of her life Harold C. Scott. Harold and Betty Jean Jackson were united in marriage on
December 3, 1950. Despite Harold's long Army career, their commitment to their marriage and each other lasted 49 years and they were apart for only fourteen short months.

She had a strong love for and commitment to her family, including her adopted family, the Owairus and her long-standing bingo family. She was an avid bingo player, who had every dabber color available and she played with so many cards it made a novice wonder how she was ever going to keep up with them all…she always did! She was adored by everyone and she knew no stranger - she will be missed by her VFW family.

Betty is survived by her sister Doris Miles; brother Freddie Dean Jackson; nieces, Midge (Scott) Bolling, Delrena Dodson-Calip, Jeanné Davis, Germaine Dodson Talley, and her nephews, Robert Louis Dodson and Tommy Dupree. She is also survived by thirty-three great nieces and nephews, twenty-nine great-great nieces and nephews, one great-great-great nephew and one great nephew-in-law.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, aunts, Florence Rhodes and Annie McConnell, niece, Gussie Bea Dupree; nephews, Charles "Sweetpea" Dupree and Woody Scott; and two great nephews, Leon Mitchell and Tony Mitchell.

She will be missed by a host of family and friends.
